Meeting Minutes

June 10, 2014

The meeting was called to order at 7:13 p.m. by Kevin Boetcher.  Motion to approve the meeting minutes from the last meeting meeting was made by Amy Niemann and seconded by Karen Hinkle.  Motion carried.

 

Treasurer’s Report – Karen

6 homeowners are not paid up for their dues and some of them already received pool passes.  Kevin will call each of them and will send a letter letting them know their trash service will be stopped if they don’t pay their dues.

 

Balances are as follows:

Checking:                    $8,695.28

Money Market:            $80,834.88

Money Market 2:         $52,181.07

Total Assets:                $141,711.23

 

Pool

The opening went well.  3 days of pool band distribution seemed to go well and we should do it that way again in the future. The freshly painted baby pool is a bit slick – we will talk to Joe Stephenson about fixing that.

The pool gate is getting heavier and slamming and injuring some folks, we may need to have it looked at.  Will talk to Lora at Pinnacle about it.

There was discussion on some signage that is needed at the pool.  Susan will handle it with help from other board members.  Signs that are needed are as follows:

Emergency # posted at the pool

No chairs in the baby pool

8248 Constance is actual pool address

Also, a battery is needed for the clock.

We will need to replace a pump, filter and sand for the pool to take care of the leaking problem we’ve had for at least a year for a total of around $2,000.  Lora says this should take care of it once and for all and then all of our updating/maintenance issues will be resolved.

There was also discussion about what to do about the sidewalk in front of the pool entrance.  It needs repair or replacement.  A pallet is also still sitting out in front of the pool – it needs to go back by the tarp behind the chemical storage area.  The tarp also still needs to be repaired.

 

 

 

Social

4 new families came to the New Neighbor Event at Susan’s house.  It was a nice event and all seemed to enjoy it.  We might do an evening event next time with beer and wine.

Pool Party = 176 have RSVP’d representing 42 families in the neighborhood.  Amy is working on contingency plans in case the weather looks bad.  We need to cancel with Hy-Vee by 4:00 Thursday if necessary.  Amy asked if folks could come at 4 to help set up or stay after to help clean up.

June 28th is movie night at the pool.  We are showing the Lego Movie.

July 4th bike parade is coming up.

 

Beautification

The Oak tree by the pool wasn’t looking good.  Ryan Lawn and Tree came out and looked at it.  $135 for iron treatment is needed and will be good for 2 years

4 trees in front of the pool are ash.  He looked at them while he was there and estimated over $1,000 to do EAB treatment for those.

Rod Davis has done some work with beautification around the pool.  He’s sprayed weeds and trimmed trees.  We need an estimate on re-mulching some areas of the neighborhood.

Master valves on sprinklers at the pool area will be done on June 11th.

 

Emerald Ash Borer:

We should treat either excellent or good trees, not poor, but we need to decide what to do about fair trees.  They could go either way.  Chris suggested and offered to do an informational meeting for our neighbors to share and go over the report from Urban Arborists and explain what it means.  Then we could design and print a door hanger for each neighbor with the information needed to follow through on their own.

The City has a plan to deal with this, but we don’t know much more about it.  Kevin indicated he would ask more questions about what their plan is.  It is not clear how they are proceeding and if there is potential reimbursement from the city at 50% of cost.

We will communicate to all neighbors via e-mail and will share the plan at a meeting probably during the 2nd half of July.

 

Architecture/Community Standards

Concrete repair around some of the mailboxes are needed.  The post office needs to repair these but there are some questions regarding if that is how it will be handled or not.  Ron will call the postmaster general for info about that.

Some neighbors have questions about roof replacements – nothing out of order, Kevin will handle.

 

Website/Publicity

Mail Chimp is working well.  Luna pages are full.  We can use Chris’ company server and have it be unlimited.  There was various website discussion around that.  Also, there was discussion about needing a calendar to send e-mail blasts/items out.  We are currently sending about 2/month.

 

Next meeting was set for Tuesday, July 15th at 7:00pm at Karen Peterson’s home.

EAB Forums were set for July 22nd, 7:00pm and Saturday, July 26th at Calvary Baptist Church across Lackman from our neighborhood.

 

Cindy moved to give $50 to Karen for her additional work she’s been doing.  It was seconded by Kevin and Amy.  Motion carried.

 

Meeting was adjourned at 9:12pm.
